Is your phone making you sick? How to disinfect your cellphone from germs.

7/1/2021 (Permalink)

Cell phone Be mindful of how and when you use your device and take the proper steps to disinfect germs from your phone at least a couple times a week.

For many of us, cell phones are like extensions of our own hands. From texting to talking, and surfing to shopping, our devices allow us to do almost anything from pretty much anywhere. And since that has become the norm, our phones have become really dirty. The good news is that it’s simple to disinfect germs from your device. So, the next time you check your email at the dinner table or pass it to your kids to keep them entertained for a few minutes, think about the last time you cleaned your phone. It could make a big difference.

IICRC certified We are an IICRC Certified Firm

SERVPRO of Friendswood/Pearland, Stafford, Missouri City North and Fresno is an IICRC firm. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) creates the standards for the restoration industry and provides training and certification to restoration companies. IICRC Certified Firms have the right to display the IICRC Certified Logo.

IICRC Certified Firms must

• Present accurate information to consumers and conduct business with honesty and integrity.

• Require a technician on all jobs who has been formally trained and passed all required tests.

• Require a continuing education program to keep technicians up to date on the latest changes in the industry.

• Maintain liability insurance to protect all parties in the event of an accident.

• Maintain a written complaint policy and agree to Better Business Bureau or similar arbitration to resolve disputes and accept the conclusions and recommendations of arbitration.

The IICRC Develops the Standards for the Restoration Industry

The IICRC has been the driving force in establishing the main industry standards and reference guides for professional carpet cleaning, water damage restoration and mold remediation. These IICRC standards take years to develop and require the coordination of experts in the field: manufacturers, industry organizations, insurance professionals, training schools, contractors, and public health professionals.

Every five years, the standards are reviewed and updated. The water damage restoration field changes rapidly with advancements in technology and science, and therefore the standards must evolve to keep pace.

4 Steps For Successful Hurricane Preparedness

7/27/2020 (Permalink)

hurricane damage with logo Prepare your home and family now.

Hurricane Season started June 1st, are you prepared?

Follow these 4 Steps for successful Hurricane Preparedness.

  • Start putting together a disaster supply kit now. Get a medium-sized plastic container to keep everything dry and together. Include a flashlight (or few), extra batteries, cash, first aid supplies, water, portable chargers (fully charged), extra pair of contacts (if needed) and copies of your critical information if you need to evacuate. You might also want to throw a roll or two of toilet paper in your disaster supply kit (trust me on this one). An extra gas can (full, of course) won’t hurt either.
  • Create an evacuation plan.
  • Stock up on supplies. Make sure your portable generator is working, and you have plenty of gas on-hand.  Have a one-week supply of non-perishable food and water for each person. Don’t forget to get those prescriptions filled, also. If you have infants, stock up on diapers, wipes and formula.
  • Prepare your home. Have the proper plywood, steel or aluminum panels to board up the windows and doors.

Need Carpet or Upholstery Cleaning?

Professional Cleaning

Our professional cleaning can address moderate and heavy soil conditions in your carpets. How often you’ll need professional cleaning depends on soil build-up, traffic, type and color of carpeting. A good rule of thumb would be to professionally clean your carpet every 12 months. The best advice is to clean carpets before they become totally saturated with soil. If you wait until carpets look really dirty, the carpets may never be restored to their former appearance. Dirt builds up in layers, and when a carpet looks dirty you are only seeing the dirt at the tips of the fibers. More dirt is hiding below the surface down near the base of the pile, causing damage to the carpet. When a carpet is saturated with dirt, the soil has penetrated crevices and has become firmly lodged.

We will get the job done right. For a cleaning backed by state-of-the-art equipment, over 40 years of experience and Professionals trained to the highest standards, call us today.

Fiberglass Insulation

10/17/2018 (Permalink)

Warning: Extended contact may cause a severe reaction to the skin. Please exercise caution.

The scary room lurking just a few feet above your head is typically one of the least visited places in the home. It is remarked for its odd bizarre characteristic of being filled with pinkish white cotton candy textured substance. This place is known as none other than the Attic. While it may look like fun to play in the puffy pink clouds, or fiberglass as its known in the construction world, it's not to be messed with except by professionals.

What is Fiberglass?

Fiberglass is made of recycled plastic, glass, and sometimes sand. It keeps your home at a comfortable temperature by insulating you from the changes of the outside world. In other words, it stops the heat from escaping. This can save significantly on your energy bill by not requiring your air conditioning unit to work as hard.

When to Replace your Insulation

While fiberglass is designed to last for decades at a time, over the years it can wear down. If your home is older and you notice a large spike in your electric bill during the summer it might be the insulation to blame.

When fiberglass becomes wet it is also time for a replacement. Due to its absorbent nature fiberglass will soak up water. Caught early enough, fiberglass can be dried but if left to sit the best/easiest course of action is to replace it.

Making The Important Call

2/19/2018 (Permalink)

Choose SERVPRO Like it never even happened!

Dealing with the Insurance companies can be scary. These are people who do nothing but take your money after all. It is okay. During an emergency this is what they are here for. This is why you have been paying them for years. They are here to help you in your time of need. Calling them after an emergency is a must. Waiting or worse not calling at all, is something you can't afford to do. Before an emergency happens, it is a good idea to have all the information in a place that’s readily available.

Things you need to know:

  • Who is your Insurance Agent?
  • What company do they work for?
  • Keep record of your claim number if you put in a claim
  • Know your adjuster; you may even want to keep his phone number
  • What is your deductible?

Reminder: It is your job to mitigate the damage. Meaning try and prevent further loss. For example, if you have water spraying from a pipe turn off the water and the electricity to affected rooms.

SERVPRO of Friendswood/Pearland will come out and inform you if putting in a claim is beneficial to your case. For a free estimate call us at: 281-412-6211
